Portraits
Who are we and what makes us who we are? Being individuals, we all have different physical features, traits and personalities. By viewing portrait of an individual, we paint a picture in our mind of who that person may be, based on their appearance and style etc.
What if we were presented with a silhouette? What picture would we paint in our imaginations?

This project combines both digital process with an analogue process, proving that the two can sit side by side and create a unique piece of visual art, reminding us that Cyanotypes can still hold a place in the digital era we live in. As rudimentary as a cyanotype may seem in this new media age, back in 1872 it would have been a revolutionary process, which is why I feel it still holds a valid place in the photography world to this day.
Cyanotypes are a unique way of creating a simple and artistic image. I love how cyanotypes can be an accessible process for all, making it child friendly also.
No two Cyanotypes are the same, just like humans. By creating the images with brush strokes, creates an even more unique piece. Each final outcome holds their own imperfections and distinct marks, much like the individuals we are. This is why I feel Cyanotypes are a perfect way to represent these alternative portraits.
Each individual in the images were all interviewed with the same questions. These answers were incorporated into the imagery, to couple up and make one complete portrait, giving the audience a clue as to who the person may be behind the shadow.
