Beyond Bootle
District 12
Beyond Bootle was a challenge given to the students of Hugh Baird University to go out and explore the surrounding areas.
Myself among a group of 11 others were given a section of Bootle to explore, photograph and create a project, worthy of exhibition.
I was given District 12 out of the grid which was predominately residential.

The Project

Decorative flowers in the window, curtains draped extravagantly.
An element of this presentation is for the outside world,
which is how this project evolved.

From this image I became drawn to the beauty behind the raw textures and the presentation along the streets of my restricted area and how people choose to decorate and display or otherwise choose not to.

This project is exploring how people choose to present their homes and windows, or in some cases choose not to.
There is wonder in the unknown. and the decisions that have been made.
Window displays that are not only for the viewing of the inside household but also for passing public outside too.
What stories may each house tell?

Even some of the most derelict and unfinished houses hold a certain charm and on closer inspection textures seem to create unique patterns that are pleasant to view.

There is curiosity in the untold and if we look closely enough, we can find beauty in the imperfect.
