Every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer, and 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime.

Cancer can often be a taboo subject, and there can be a degree of stigma around the conversation of the disease.
Together, my mother & I want to eradicate the awkward conversation.

This is a project of my mothers journey and her battle with stage 4 bowel cancer,

and how it fitted into her everyday life.

The Project

1 in 2 - Science in the everyday

My mother Christine (Chris) was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in July 2023.
This journey of the unknown has taken us on many up's and downs. We decided to document this process as we were astounded by

just how many new patients we seen being admitted with cancer during every appointment my mother had at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

This sparked the realisation of the vastness of the disease. I believe we are all aware of the severity and the scale of cancer and the effects it has on the population, but do we realise, just how many people we pass on the street that may be currently living with cancer?

Cancer awareness is not a secret subject. Thankfully campaigns and help are advertised on many platforms, but do we really feel comfortable talking about it?

Nearly all of us will be exposed to cancer in our lifetime, whether that be personally or someone we know being effected by it. My mums mission was to fight, and eradicate the 'elephant in the room'.

Unfortunately my mum lost her battle with Cancer in April 2024, she fought bravely to the end, I dedicate this work to her and everyone suffering with the effects Cancer has on their life and the lives of their loved ones around them.
