Perspectives in Practice
Following the success of the previous programme, I returned to facilitate the photography course at Life Rooms in Spring 2026, this time leading the course independently.
Over the course of six weeks, participants were encouraged to explore photography beyond simply taking images, focusing instead on observation, creativity, experimentation and personal expression.
Throughout the programme, the group explored a wide range of photographic approaches and alternative processes, including portraiture, candid photography, cyanotypes, hapa zome, editing on mobile devices, and bookbinding. Sessions combined both practical photography skills and creative experimentation, encouraging participants to develop confidence in their own way of seeing.
The course also included creative outings to the Walker Art Gallery and Liverpool Central Library, where participants explored architecture, perspective, light and visual storytelling through observation and photography.
A key theme throughout the course was the idea that:
“It’s not the camera that makes the image, it’s you.”

Exhibition
This exhibition showcases work produced by participants of a photography course held at Life Rooms, focusing on observation, creativity and process.
Over the course of 7 weeks, the group explored photography in a variety of ways, from working with light and composition, to experimenting with alternative perspectives and processes such as cyanotypes and hapa zome.
Many participants also chose to take their learning beyond the classroom, creating work between sessions and continuing to develop their skills in their own time, returning each week with new ideas and work to share.
The images and prints on display reflect a journey of observation, creativity and growing confidence. Each piece captures a moment of learning, experimentation and personal expression.
