Photography
Course
Over the space of 7 weeks I co-facilitated a photography course at a Merseyside based community centre, Life Rooms Walton. Designed to introduce participants to a range of photographic techniques and processes.
Each session focused on a distinct theme or skill, including cyanotype printing, liquid photography, bookbinding and photo walks. We also incorporated gallery visits to broaden creative perspectives and encourage critical engagement with photographic and artistic work.
The course was facilitated in a socially engaged way, aimed to foster both technical skills and creative confidence in a supportive, collaborative environment, using what was available, such as mobile phones and making photography accessible for everyone.
Participants were encouraged to experiment, reflect, and develop their own visual language over the duration of the programme.
We concluded with a pop-up exhibition showcasing the body of work created throughout the course, a celebration of the creativity, commitment, and growth of everyone involved.
Exhibition
The final exhibition was developed collaboratively, with participants playing an active role in selecting the works to be displayed and shaping how their images were presented. This socially engaged approach ensured that the exhibition reflected the voices and intentions of those involved, while also providing an opportunity to learn about curatorial decision-making and exhibition design. With support, participants co-curated and assisted in the installation of the show, transforming the space into a shared celebration of their creative journeys.
